RCSA: TRANSITIONS
The great ship that is RCSA is changing captain’s. Yes, Captain Stubing (Jake) is releasing his tight-fisted grip on the wheel. Incoming RCSA President and Women’s Division Commissioner, Bridget Lahm, is stepping up to guide this big boat into the warm seas of 2010. In addition, new Open Division Commissioner, Nate Larkins, has hit the ground running in preparing for next season too. (okay, some mixed metaphors there.)
Bridget can be reached at: Bridget@rosecitysoftball.org
Nate can be reached at: Nate@rosecitysoftball.org
Jake will continue to be the Open Division NAGAAA Representative, becoming a Resource for the RCSA, not THE source. (yes, just made that up) You will find him on the Lido Deck (back to the Love Boat Metaphor)
A complete list of all the RCSA Officers can be found on our websites under the “About Us” tab.
We are very excited about the upcoming season, and have had more interest from new and returning teams at this point in the year than we can recall. It is already looking like we will have continued, if not explosive, growth under our new leadership. The RCSA will probably blow past the 30 team mark for 2010. (Six C teams in the Open Division? Crazy Cool)
So while all of you are enjoying the rainy winter, the RCSA will be very busy getting ready for a banner 2010 S

SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 6TH: RCSA ARM STRENGTH CLINIC
Want to learn how to improve your arm strength in 4 weeks? Would you believe that it is as easy as dedicating 25-30 minutes of your day to some simple arm strengthening exercises? Cole Reynolds, Coach of the Slammers, will guide you through a workout designed to strengthen your rotator cuff, so you can not only throw harder, but decrease your risk of injury during the season. This is a free softball clinic for all RCSA members, all you need to bring is yourself and a 5 lbs weight. If you do not have a 5 lb weight, NO PROBLEM! Just bring a tennis ball can filled with sand and it will suffice! We look forward to seeing all of you at the skills clinic.
When: 12 noon, Saturday, Feb 6th
Where: Overlook Park, South East Corner (by the softball field) at Interstate and North Fremont in North Portland.
Click on the map for a large map to Overlook Park.

All levels from beginner to advanced welcome. This event is free!

Then tell them about our NEW PLAYER SKILLS CLINIC too!

RE: The RCSA 2010 Season
On behalf of all the Officers of the Rose City Softball Association, we would like to thank you for being a
sponsor of the RCSA in 2009. We had a very successful year, and we owe a big part of that success to you and
your generous support.
The RCSA grew by four teams in 2009, continuing the growth trend we started back in 2007 to a league high of 28 teams. Even at this early date, there are additional teams organizing for the 2010 season and we expect to surpass 30 teams come spring.
The Regular Season:
We are hard at work preparing for our Regular Season 2010. The RCSA comes off it’s 15th anniversary season with more momentum then every before and we look to make the next 15 years even better.
Cascade Cup, 2010:
Cascade Cup celebrates 30 years in the Northwest, and Portland is going to make the July 4th tournament a weekend to remember.
The tournament has become a regular favorite for west coast visiting teams. Our amazing fields, our fantastic host bars and street events, the hospitality of our city, and now our signature “Broke + Bat Home Run Derby and Shootout” combine to make Cascade Cup’s reputation as a great time legendary in the LGBTQ softball circles.
Giving Back to Our Community:
The 2009 RCSA All Stars VS the Portland Police Charity Softball Game on Pride Weekend benefited the Portland Police Cadet Academy and Outside In.
Our 2009 Cascade Cup and Broke Bat Derby proceeds helped our own RCSA Player Financial Assistance Fund and Cascade Aids Project.
The RCSA also donated to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society in 2009.
We, of course, plan to continue our commitment to the greater Portland LGBTQ community by providing a safe, welcoming environment for slow pitch softball, and to be a socially responsible organization.
We hope this small preview has you as excited as we are about the RCSA in 2010, and we hope to continue our great relationship with you as a sponsor in the coming year.
Regards,
The RCSA Commissioners,
Bridget and Jake

We are pleased to announce that the RCSA is partnering with the U.S. Census Bureau to help achieve a complete and accurate count of every U.S. resident in the 2010 Census. Conducted every 10 years, the census defines who we are as a nation. It guides critical decisions on the national, state and local levels that affect Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender people. The 2010 Census will be the first to report counts of both same-sex partners and same-sex spouses. Transgender individuals will be counted as the sex they identify.
*The RCSA does not release any information to the Census, but as an advocate of LGBTQ rights, we want to help the LGBTQ Community be aware that the Census matters in how we are represented for the next 10 years.
More info on the Census:
City of Portland and U.S. Census Bureau deliver unprecedented outreach to LGBT communities
Portland, Ore. – The City of Portland, in partnership with the U.S. Census Bureau , today released two locally produced Public Service Announcements to encourage Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) households to fill out their 2010 Census forms. Portland is the only city in the nation to produce a public service announcement in partnership with the U.S. Census Bureau to conduct outreach to the LGBT community about the Census and changes to its format.
The project raises awareness of how the 2010 Census will count LGBT households .
